A Review of the Pro-164 1000 Channel Handheld Police Scanner
By johnb0127
There are many police scanners out there available to purchase, but how do you know which one is the best of the best? It’s by reviews that you can read and see pictures of the scanner you want. If you are considering getting the Pro-164 or just considering buying a police scanner, please read my helpful (hopefully) review!
The Pro-164 1000 Channel Handheld Police Scanner
Long name, isn’t it? That’s just about the only thing wrong with it! The Pro-164 (for short) is a great and possibly the best scanner out there today. Here’s why:
Easily Accessible – The Pro-164 is handheld so it can be easily carried around. Some scanners are made to mount on the dash of your car which is ok and you can take it places, but it is very easier to buy a handheld, if your looking for accessibility. Plus, the Pro-164 just looks like a big radio.
Small….. – Another great thing that helps with its great accessibility is that it is necessarily small. According to my own measurements, the scanner is 6” without the antenna and 11.5” with the antenna. Being this size, it looks just like your average police/cb radio. The only difference being you can’t talk into the police scanner! (although I wish you could).
But BIG! – The Pro-164 has a big memory back. It can hold up to 1000 channels all different frequencies. The Pro-164 has 10 banks, each holding 100 channels. When all the banks are filled up, the channel has its full capacity of 1000 channels.
What You Can Listen To – Besides the whole police scanner where you can listen to the local police agencies, the Pro-164 also provides much more that you can listen too if you get the chance. The Pro-164 allows you to listen to Signal Stalker II, trunking systems, a button to press for immediate Weather Alerts and Forecasts, and 7 ranges including CB, Marine, Public Safety, Amateur, and Railroad.
Battery Life – The battery life of the Pro-164 is roughly a week. Of course, the battery life will go down if you accidently leave it on or something. Rechargeable batteries are a basic must-have when this scanner so you aren’t constantly going back to the store and buying new batteries every week.
So All in All – So is the Pro-164 a good police scanner? Absolutely. I purchased my scanner in October of 2008 and I can guarantee there has not been a day when I haven’t listened to my police scanner. It brings fun and enjoyment to all who are listening. You can even impress people with it by telling them what is hear their house. This scanner I believe is the best of the best!
