Christmas Lights in Arlington, Texas
72
Christmas lights are a big tradition in America. Almost every house around Christmas time has them lighting up the whole neighborhood. With this light tradition come a few over achievers, or those who go over and sometimes beyond on Christmas lights. Sometimes the over and beyond is a good thing because the lights are professionally done and installed, but at the same time others just tend to through Christmas lights out all scattered and it looks flat out horrible.
Here in Arlington, Texas, we are proud of our Christmas light heritage. There are so many great places to look at lights here in Arlington that I decided to write a hub about it to get people over here and be amazed!
Kulesz Lights in Dalworthington Gardens (south Arlington)
David Kulesz, an Arlington attorney, puts on one of the most fabulous light displays in all of Arlington if not the state of Texas! He lives in Dalworthington Gardens (he is actually my neighor!) which is situated in south Arlington. Every year, he puts up around 400,000 lights all professionally done. Lights line his house and stream from the trees and his tennis court right next door to the house is lit up as well. David lives on a cul de sac, so all of his neighbors have also joined in putting up lights. Every house is decorated, but Mr. Kulesz's is the most elaborate. He has to start in October putting them all up and finally ends taking them down in February. Of all the many times I have been Christmas light looking and seen shows with tons of Christmas lights, this one is my favorite. I highly recommend to go and view this amazing spectacle, you will be in for a treat!
Kulesz Lights is in Dalworthington Gardens (south Arlington) near Key Elementary. You can find these lights by driving down Harder Lane.
Interlochen Lights
Updates: The Interlochen Lights were on the brink of shutting down this year due to funding issues with the City of Arlington. But prominent UTA professor and philanthropist, Allan Saxe, has made it happen through his donation. Thanks Allan!
Interlochen is a neighborhood in north Arlington known for its amazing display of Christmas lights. The area of Interlochen is between Westwood Drive, Randol Mill Road, and goes as far as Findlay Drive. If you have never been to Interlochen Lights, you need to go. Seriously. Every house, except for those who are stubborn, are lined with colorful Christmas lights and Christmas displays. The Interlochen Lights may be the single most populated Christmas event in all of Arlington, Texas. It is estimated that nearly 40,000 people drive the crowded streets every year to view the amazing show, and the number multiplies every year. Some residents say even a thousand a night will show up. I went over to Interlochen this year and boy was it crowded. But its a good kind of crowded.
Interlochen is mostly cul de sac's and winding streets. The Christmas light route takes you all around the neighborhood. They have even added police officers because the traffic tends to get crazy when you put thousands of people in this small area. To even get into Interlochen, you have to wait in a long line of cars, but it is well worth it!
Once in Interlochen, it is advised that you turn your lights off in order to enjoy the scenery better. The cars are lined up back to back; basically you drive at an extremely slow speed throughout the whole Christmas light parade route, but that is good because you get to enjoy the whole spectacle!
I went just the other night and timed going through to see how long it took me: from getting in the long line of cars to going through all of Interlochen, it took me roughly 2 and 1/2 hours.
The enviroment in Interlochen is great. Some of home owners are outside waving HI and shouting Merry Christmas. Some are even out selling fun items like glowsticks or popcorn. As I said above, you will be driving very slow and right up next to other drivers, oncoming and right in front. Some of the drivers will be blaring Christmas music, some of the drivers may have kids who will be poking their heads out of the sun roofs, some drivers may even shout Merry Christmas to everyone. But all in all, it is just a fun place for Christmas lights and a great places to visit if you want to have an extreme amount of fun! You can view Interlochen from December 19-31.
I apologize for the blurry pictures, camera phones these days! A guess thats just as excuse to go VIEW IT FOR YOURSELF! ha!
Some Other Places
There are many homes all across Arlington that have amazing light displays, just not as big as Kulesz and Interlochen. In Dalworthington Gardens, near Kulesz, there are a couple of houses that are heavily decorated on Sunset Lane and Wooded Creek.
Another great place to visit it 702 Wayland Drive in north Arlington just north of I30 and Cooper. It's the second house on the street, you can't miss it. Trust me. The small house is overdone with blue icicles and ground covered lights that dance to techno, classical and Christmas tunes. MUST SEE!
If there is a place that you know of in Arlington that has a great display of Christmas lights, please tell in the comments! Thanks for reading and Merry Christmas!

Thanks for sharing all the pics, even though they're blurry...we get the idea. Great hub. I'm giving you a link in my "Best Lights in Texas" hub. :)
John, your lights are beautiful. Thanks, Don White
This was a great way to view lights on Christmas night, from the comfort of my sofa! Would you be interested in trading links with me on my Christmas- Things I Love to Do... hub, which heavily features San Antonio and Hill Country holiday lights and activities?
I got my link done too. Thanks. I'll look for you in the future as I am likely to write some hubs on Texas Hill Country travel and will be looking for other Texas travel.
I've gone to kultz just about every year I talked to his neighbor and he told me that they add 40,000 bulbs each year. It a must see
