There are beautifully designed homes all across the world; big or small, tall or skinny, beautiful or ugly, every home has its own design and characteristics.  In this hub, I will talk about some amazing home styles.

Colonial home styles are known for their giant front pillars and large square windows. The old colonial homes were mostly large and white. Now as the times have become more modern, these colonial homes has taken the appearance on in brick. The average colonial homes, if standing right in front of it, looks like a large rectangle, with a rook of course, and then either 1 or 2, most likely 2, separate “boxes”, or rooms, parting off from the side of the house. The homes, in the old days, were mostly owned and built by wealthy Americans. Characteristics include a single front door, double chimneys, and multiple square windows in two, or if the house is bigger, 3 rows.

Ranch styled homes are your average, run of the mill homes. Characteristics include a simple floor plan, attached garage, single story, large windows, and hip roofs. These homes are commonly seen throughout much of the south, but can also be seen anywhere around the country. With the modern ranch style home, rock pillars, large windows, single door, raised roof at the enter, rock chimneys, and overhanging roofs can all possibly be seen. Also within the modern ranch style include homes with a large overhanging roof and then a front porch with windows above the porch. Throughout history, ranch style homes have become more and more popular. Today, many homes are designed in the ranch style and are more common.  The more prettiest of the ranch styled homes are those that are out in the country.

Now to my personal favorite, the Mediterranean style homes! If you are standing in front of a Mediterranean style home, you feel like you are on an island or on a beachfront property. Most luxurious mansions are made from the Mediterranean style. You can always tell when the house is made from Mediterranean because the roof shingles will be curved and usually a tint of orange. The Mediterranean style seems to be the most unique. Most Mediterranean homes have unique architecture and, doors and windows. Some even have pointy topped roofs. Most Mediterranean homes also have, and forgive me since I do not know what it is called, a type of architectural structure at the very top of the roof which looks like the top of a bell tower. If you look at the picture below, you will see what I am talking about! Anyway, another cool feature of Mediterranean styles homes is the cylinder type structure that comes on just about every Mediterranean style home. The Mediterranean homes derived from a type of Spanish home so some Mediterranean style homes can look Spanish in a sense.

Next is the style of McMansion. Brought down by the term Neo-Eclectic, these homes are the large, showy and luxurious. Funny as it is, McMansion is also derived from none other than McDonalds! McDonalds is a fast growing and mass producing restaurant chain. The design behind these homes, I think, can be described in one more: random! All doors, windows, porches, and other features are oddly and randomly placed. Strangely, I think this makes the home look better. The roofs are placed at different heights, which is also cool. McMansions, although randomly selected architecture, are the most luxurious and wealthy homes.

I like the ranch but I am a single parent and couldn't imagine the work involved in the upkeep of the other homes. They definitely made for the more wealthy. Beautiful though, I must agree. :)
