The Range Rover celebrated 40 years of automobile making and history last month. Well today, July 1st, Land Rover unveiled the 2012 Range Rover Evoque. The concept looks dangerously similar, if not exact, to the Land Rover LRX.

A complete new exterior style has taken over the Range Rover. The new model features a revamped body style, almost nothing alike the older Range Rover models. The Range Rover models before the 2012 edition were more boxy, sporty, and defined; however, the Evoque features a slicker style and more "of the future" look. Literally all features of the Evoque are different from the original, more common Range Rover. It seems like Land Rover is departing from the boxy look and headed toward a more defined and slicker one. Also, on the new 2012 concept, only 2 door accompany the car. The original Range Rover had 4 doors and plenty of leg room; this may have just changed.

A large glass sun roof is another amenity in this new Range Rover model. Slimmer headlights create a mean and "get out of my way" look from the front view. The back tail lights are also slim, but nothing much to see back there. The whole car in general just reminds me of something "of the future". We all have those conceptions of what the future cars or future houses will look like. When I like of future car, I think of the 2012 Range Rover Evoque.

Not much is known about the interior, just yet. Land Rover has promised better fuel efficiency with the Evoque.

Take a look at the Range Rover timeline below and see how far Range Rover has come! Happy 40th Birthday, Range Rover!

Range Rover Timeline

Here is the very first model of the Range Rover created and designed in 1970.

Coming along, here is the 1980 version of the Range Rover. Not much has changed! As you can notice, an update would be the adding of two doors making the Range Rover a four door vehicle.

A dramatic increase in technology and performance from the new 2010 model, probably my favorite. The ten years in between 2000 and 2010 is when Range Rover started taking shape and forming into a great and common SUV.

Yes John, the Range Rover has certainly changed over the years. Although the latest 2012 model looks lovely, i don't believe that structurally they would even come close to the 1970 model. Although by today's standards the older heavier vehicles were a lot more greedy on fuel they were and still are great work horses. Thanks for sharing.

God Bless

This mini Range Rover will not be replacing the larger one surely?

To be honest, I do believe the older Range Rover look is out the window. I really hope I am wrong because I love the old look. The new Evoque is okay, but I am a bigger fan of the older model.

sleeky but i wonder why every car maker is going for this mini infinity kind of look, bmw has something like this now and that ford edge too. this is insanely beautiful but i still prefer the 2011 model and 2010 model. it gives you the feeling of being in control.
