A Taste of France in North Texas: The Champ d'Or, a French Mega Mansion Inspired by the Vaux-le-Vicomte

UPDATE!! -- The new listing price for the Champ d'Or has lowered to $35,000,000.
Deep in the heart of Texas in the small town of Hickory Creek, Texas stands one of the biggest homes in Texas and even in the whole southern part of the United States: The Champ d'Or. Inspired by the Vaux-le-Vicomte in Paris, France, this mega estate boasts extremely high end living with a taste of France.
Located in Hickory Creek, Texas in the heart of Denton County shy north of Dallas and Fort Worth metroplex, this 48,000 square foot home is owned by retired CellStar CEO Alan Goldfield and his wife Shirley. The mansion is properly titled "Champ d'Or", suitably meaning Fields of Gold.
Shirley was the main ingredient behind the grand masterpiece. Often visiting the Vaux-le-Vicomte in Paris, she would note specific details about the French structure and how she would be able to incorporate the grandiose architecture into a residential home. The climbing rotunda featured high above in the Texas sky was one of the main architectural elements Shirley wanted to include in her home; and she got it.
Upon entering, a 3 floor foyer with a spacious grand staircase lights up with natural sunlight. The ceiling of the dome holds incredible significance. With the construction of the estate around the September 11, 2001 attacks, Shirley wanted to paint a sky-blue color and doves spreading roses for peace in America.
Almost every room in the estate has its own significance. The green-floored Tea Room is modeled after the New York's Tavern on the Green, the master suite, occupying a whole wing, contains a marble mantle and fireplace inspired by that of Marie Antoinette's in France, and the men's powder room even holds the fireplace from the famous movie, Titanic. Don't forget the 2 story closet designed after the Chanel Boutique in Paris or the indoor pool inspired by the Monte Carlo. The Palace of Versailles ball room precedes a hallway modeled after Napoleon's Hall of Plates. All furniture in the Grand Salon, the first room upon entering, was bought in France; the salon even has a Louis XVI Grand Piano, which Shirley says is "very authentic".
One Texas realtor commented, "I don't know of any home in the Dallas or surrounding area that is 48,000 square feet." Some people call the Champ a "Taj-Mahal", said an assistant at the Hickory Creek works department.
"I wanted every room to be special", said Shirley Goldfield, "It was a collection of all the things I like."
The mega chateau is for sale, listed just under $70 million. The 256 acre estate also includes 2 other homes: one 6,000 sq. foot ranch styled home across the street and one 16,000 sq. foot modern/contemporary home on the east side of the lot.

What a house...mansion! Guess it was just too far a walk to get that ice cream! Ha! What...no servants to do the job?
I love this estate!!!!!!!!!!
Just think of all the hungry people that could've been fed with the money it took to build this! So sad.
Just think of all the hungry people that will be inspired that they, too, can be successful with hard work and truly build the home of their dreams! So exciting!
Just think of all the hungry people fed each month by the property taxes on this alone!
