The Great State of Texas

Texas is one of the great states in this here United States (im trying to talk like someone from Texas, even though I am). Covering around 269,000 square miles, 800 miles north/south, and 773 miles east/west, Texas has VERY much to offer.

The Capitol

If you haven't studied up on your capitols, Austin is the capitol of Texas. It is located in the southern central part of Texas. Austin became the capitol of Texas in 1839. The capitol was moved to Houston, Texas in 1842, but then later moved back to Austin. At the time of building, the capitol was said to be the seventh largest building in the world!

Texas can be divided up into seven regions: Big Bend Country, The Gulf Coast, The Hill Country, The Panhandle, Piney Woods, Prairies and Lakes, and The South Texas Plains.

The Big Bend Country

The Big Bend Country is the far west part of Texas. There are many things to do in the Big Bend Country because it offers adventure. The Big Bend is very hilly and beautiful with landscape. Hiking, camping, biking, and even horseback riding can be enjoyed here. Its landscape and lucious hills earns the name of Highest Region in Texas.

The Gulf Coast

The Gulf Coast is the most southern part of Texas along the Gulf of Mexico. There is roughly 624 miles of beachfront fun. You can find beaches, fishing trips, boat rides, and of course, an AMAZING view! Along the coast are two islands North Padre and South Padre. Now if your planning on going to South Padre, you might wanna think that over again. During the holidays, South Padre can get busy and a little wild, if you know what I mean. Even though its a great island, I would prefer North Padre, specifically Port Aransas on Mustang Island. Port Aransas has much to offer: fishing, boat trips, chillin on the beach, and drivin on the beach! The condos line the beach and if you stay in the condos, you can walk right out onto the beach. In my opinion, North Padre is a whole lot better than Destin, Florida or something because North Padre has MASSIVE waves. In Destin, the waves are punyyy!! You can boogy board, skim board, and even a little surfing! Its amazing beachfront earns the name Best Beach in the World (my opinion :) )

The Hill Country

The Hill Country takes is about the southern/centeral half of Texas. With beautiful green hills and amazing landscape, the towns in the Hill Country are a must see. Towns such as Marble Falls, Fredricksburg, and Kerrville are lined with lucious green hills and blooming flowers. The Hill Country has a historical background. The hills were formed by ancient seas and erosion. The Texas State History Museum is located in the Hill Country. The Hill Country earns the name Best Kodak Moment Place.

The Panhandle

Most people think of the Panhandle as of, well, nothing! But that is certainly NOT true. The Panhandle has much to offer visitors, including historical museums and markers, old western towns, and a place called Palo Duro Canyon. The Palo Duro Canyon is a canyon region where the rocks have formed marvelous shaped figures. When here, you might think you were in an old-timer movie, but its better! Another thing that is awesome about the Panhandle it the food. Holy cow people. The barbaque sandwich with extra A1 loaded down with fries on the side and a tall glass of Dr. Pepper will LIGHT YO FIRE! The Panhandle earns the name Flat, But Awesome.

Piney Woods

The Piney Woods is located in far east Texas. When you think of Texas, you probably think of flat meadows instead of woods and forests. If you are driving through, stop and take a walk through the piney woods. It will give you a whole new prospective on "Texas". The Caddo Lake is located in the Piney Woods. The Caddo Lake is the only natural lake in Texas. Many houses in east Texas are old styled and remind you of the 'good ol days'. If you do visit the Piney Woods of east Texas, you will never be inside because of the fun outside. The Piney Woods earns the name Best Outdoor Recreation.

Prairies and Lakes

The Prairies and Lakes region is located from the Red River in north Texas down to around Austin, Texas. Cities such as Dallas and Fort Worth are located in this region. As hinted in the name, there are many lakes in this region. Possum Kingdom Lake and many other locals lakes are present. Enjoy a day on the boat or shopping in Dallas; you will not get bored. This region earns the name Best Activites Place in Texas.

South Texas Plains

The South Texas Plains is located, well of course, in the southern most region of Texas. The Alamo is located here. South Texas Plains have more of a Mexican feel to them. The Mexican food here, we call is Tex-Mex, is awesome. Flavor from Mexico added with Texas flavor proves to be a party in your mouth. This region earns the name Most Historical Place.

Thanks john. I'll eventually do more TX hubs. A lot of my brother's photos are not digital. We can't decide if we're gonna dig through and scan photos or which places it would just be easier to revisit and do digital photos! I'll let you know as I get more TX travel hubs published.
