The Ouija Board Occult: A Way to Communicate with Dead Spirits - A Christian's Response
64
Occult Summary
The Ouija Board is a board used to communicate with the spirits of the dead. The original invention of the Ouija board aimed to access a part of one's spiritual self that isn't usually accessed, or contact with the spirits.
The Ceremony
The ceremony, or séance, is conducted with the Ouija board. A cardboard cut-out, or any other device used to make a Ouija board, is placed in the middle of the users. The letters A-Z are written at the top of the board, the numbers 0-9 are written in the middle of the board, and the words “Yes”, “No”, and “Goodbye” are prescribed at the bottom of the board. A moveable object is placed over the board and the Ouija board users all place on finger on the moveable object. From there, the spirits guide the movable object over the letters, numbers, and words to spell words or answer questions. The spirits may also interact physically with the users; some participants have reported sounds of people yelling, blowing on their face, or even possessing them.
Christian Response
Christians have long criticized the use of the Ouija board as a symbol of witchcraft. Merely, the board is a tool of Satan that is used to contact dead spirits. A clear Christian response is noted in Leviticus 19 and 20 in the Holy Bible. Leviticus 19:31 states, “Do not turn to mediums or necromancers, do not seek them out, and so make yourselves unclean by them: I am the Lord your God.” Clearly, God strictly commands Christians to not turn to necromancers, or those who seek out spirits for communication. Leviticus 20:6 also states that, “If a person turns to mediums and necromancers, whoring after them, I will set my face against that person and will cut him off from among his people.” As these two verses vividly portray, God commands Christians to shy away from such activities like the Ouija board.
