The Top 3 Coolest Fire Stations in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex
65Fire Departments across America hold strong significance within our communities. They are the essence of public safety; the profession of fire fighting is well respected all across the world. A usual fire fighter works 24 hours on the job, 48 off. While on the job, the crew not only needs a place to sleep, eat, and hang out, but also a place to store their equipment and apparatuses. We call this a fire station. It shouldn't be a new concept to you as you've probably seen a number of fire stations around your place of residence. If you happen to live in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, here's my list for the Top 3 Coolest Fire Stations in the DFW Metroplex.
3. Arlington, TX FD Station #9
Arlington, specifically south Arlington, recently welcomed the newest fire station to the city: Fire Station #9. The old Station 9 is off S. Cooper near Oak Village and Wimbledon. After being in service for over 30 years, the city decided it was time to build a new station. Plus, as traffic as picked up on Cooper Street over the past 30 years, pulling out onto Cooper while en route to an emergency was getting tougher and tougher. The new location of Station 9 is at 909 Wimbledon Drive. The 12,000 sq. foot firehouse is valued at $3.4 million. The station will continue to house Quint 9, Engine 9, and Battalion 2.
2. Dallas, TX FR Station #11
Dallas Fire Rescue's Station 11 is by far the coolest station in Dallas out of its 57 stations. The historic feel to the station dates back to the early 1900's. The station opened in 1909 at Cedar Springs Road and Reagan Street. Its total square footage is 10,561 sq. feet after a few remodels and add-ons. Still located over 100 years later at 3828 Cedar Springs Road, there has been some controversy after the Dallas City Council's decision to move Truck 11 to another station in the far southern portions of the county. Those notions are currently pending. Station #11 houses Engine 11, Truck 11, Rescue 11, and Peak Demand Rescue 73.
1. Colleyville, TX FD Station #3
And finally, the coolest fire station in the Metroplex, in my opinion, is Colleyville, TX Fire Station #3. Opening its doors in November of 1999, the ranch styled fire station hardly even looks like a fire station. I think its cool how the city of Colleyville incorporated a home-like style and atmosphere into the last of their stations. The station is smaller than the others: just under 4,000 sq. feet. Station 3 houses Truck 243, Brush 243, and a reserve Medic.
