Three Fun Things to do in Port Aransas, Texas

Port Aransas, Texas is a great, family-fun place I think everyone should visit. Port Aransas offers stuff like great dining, beach access, cool shopping, riding a ferry, fishing, dolphin watching, shell collecting, it has everything! It was hard, and after 16 years of going to Port Aransas for vacation, I picked out 3 must do’s.

1. Visit Winton’s Candies – Winton’s Candies is a small, but amazing candy store located right in front of Port Aransas. Once you enter this small shop, there is candy everywhere! You pick up a white paper sack and go at it. You fill up the sack with all the different candies you want. I mean, every type of candy you can imagine is in that small little store! Once at checkout, a lady measures the sack to see how much it weighs. They charge you per pound. Watch out, their prices are a bit over the edge, but still it is worth it! After checkout, they give your free samples of the days special. Sometimes it’s carmel with nuts, fudge with nuts, or whatever fatting, but creamy treat they offer. This is definitely a 'must do' when in Port Aransas.

2. Rent a Buggy – This is a tradition my family does every year when we go down. There is a small shop right when you arrive into town next to the grocery store where you can rent these fun little buggies. You will see the shop because all the buggies are parked outside of the shop. You can go into the shop and rent a buggy or buggies in hour increments. Once you have rented it, its time to pick out which one you want. They have many different styles on the buggies like Texas Longhorns or sunflowers. Pick out which one or ones you want to ride in and hop in. They have to do some check-in procedures and then once that is over, you are ready to hit the road. The buggies can hold 4 people or you can rent one that seats up to 8 people. Once you are ready, cruise the town! You can go virtually anywhere: on the roads, on the beach, park it and go shopping. I recommend driving them on the beach. It is cool to drive along the beach and wave at everyone in your cool little buggy. They are street legal. You can drive down the beach then drive down the street to a shop or restaurant. You and your family will surely enjoy this attraction.

3. Go to the Beach – Going to the beach, something you really can’t do back at home, unless of course you live on the coast! The beach offers so much fun things to do, I should have written a whole hub on it! On the beach you can, like I said above, drive along in the sand occasionally getting stuck (so much fun!), make sandcastles, catch hermit crabs, lounge in the sun, cookout, ride the waves, skin board, go for a walk along the seaside, hunt for shells, a ton of fun stuff! Make sure you put on a lot of sunscreen though because you can bake really easy, I know by experience (bad experience). Port Aransas offers free access to the beach with roads where you can park your car right along the seaside. There is also the option to stay at a resort along the beach with free access only to its residences. That is one of the good things about staying in a resort on the beach, it isn’t as crowded as the free public beach accesses are. Either way, the point is that going to the beach is a must do.

Well, I hope you learned a little about fun things to do in Port Aransas. I hope to see you there sometime!

My husband and I spent a winter in Port Aransas in our RV a few winters ago. I will never forget spending New Year's Eve on the beach of the Gulf.
