Top Ten Places to Visit in Texas
93Top Ten
Texas is one of the best states in the United States of America. It is filled with fun and enjoyment the whole family will love. If you are planning to come to Texas, here are 10 locations that I consider must visits.
Top Ten
10. The Big Texan in Amarillo, Texas - The Big Texan is a very large restaurant located in Amarillo, Texas. It has wonderful food, but the one thing that draws many visitors is the free 72 oz. steak. In the restaurant's eating area, there is a raised platform with one single table and four chairs. If one dares to try, the cooks grill you a 72 ounce steak. If you try to eat all of the steak, potato, roll, and salad, you would have just eaten a FREE MEAL; however, if you can't finish the 72 ounce steak, you must pay the fee, which is around 72.00! Good luck!
9. Blue Bell Creamery - Many people have heard of the great ice-cream chain Bluebell. In Brenham, Texas, Bluebell opened the doors in 1907. Bluebell is sold in many states and has around 50 different flavors to choose from! Visit the creamery and you just may get free ice cream.
8. Six Flags in Arlington, Texas - Six Flags is a fun attractive theme park located right in the heart of beautiful, wondrous Arlington, Texas. It's home to many large roller coasters, one being the massive Titan, which can be seen from miles away!
7. Highland Park, Texas - Highland Park is located in north Dallas. The city of Highland Park has a rich history in the Dallas. It is easily one of the most beautiful cities in all of the Lone Star State. Many of the homes in Highland Park are very fancy and exquisite, just adding the more fun of seeing all the luxurious houses.
6. Reunion Tower in Dallas, Texas - Reunion Tower in Dallas, Texas is one of the most unique restaurants in Texas besides the Big Texan. It is located around 550 ft. in the air in, simply put, a 'big ball'. Up at the top of the ball, as I said, there is a restaurant. Directly under the restaurant is an observation deck notable for great pictures. One interesting feature is that the big ball spins 360 degrees in one hour while you enjoy your meal!
5. The Riverwalk in San Antonio, Texas - Running through the city is a long river. It has earned the names riverwalk because there are sidewalks along the river which you can walk along the river. You can also ride visitor boats down the river, which is very fun. Along the river is lined with trees, stores, and even a mall! When in San Antonio, this is a definite must see.
4. Austin, Texas - Austin the located in south Texas. It is also the capitol of Texas. In the city is many different attractions, one including the University of Texas. Another attraction many people enjoy is the Capitol Building. If you want a great history lesson, go to the capitol, it is very enjoying!
3 The Alamo - Another great attraction in San Antonion is The Alamo. The Alamo is the ruins of the Battle of the Alamo, the most famous battle of the Texas Revolution. It is now a museum with lined with beautiful landscape. You can walk through and look at all the wonderful artifacts and things people have discovered from the ruins.
2. The new Dallas Cowboys stadium - Originally located in Irving, Texas just north of Dallas is the Dallas Cowboy stadium. Recently, we approved the stadium to be built now in Arlington, Texas right next door to the Ballpark at Arlington, where the Texas Rangers play. It will be the biggest football stadium in the country. It is now under construction and will be completed soon and the hope to start the season in the new stadium at the start of the season of 2009.
1. Port Aransas - Located along the Gulf of Mexico in south Texas along the Aransas Pass is Port Aransas. Port Aransas, located on Mustang Island, is home to many condos which lead right to the beach. I will admit, the water is not as clear as Destin, Florida or anywhere is Florida. The best things about the beaches here are the waves! Some waves get to over 6 feet! Does Destin have that? No! If you are down there, this is a MUST GO! Bring your swim trucks, boogie boards, and be prepared to have to most fun you have ever had in your life!
Hopefully this hub will convince you how enjoyable and exciting the great state of Texas is! Have a great time in Texas!!

Or break it into attractions.......cities.........natural places, etc. Might be easier. It is a BIG state! (Smile)
You could even break it into regions. Great hub. You name many of my favorite places.
Very cool! I'm still working on that. No one seems to be interested. I'm not sure how much work to put into something that no one seems that interested in, you know?
I'm excited about it! It's a great idea too! :)
I'm vote for CA. I'm originally from there. TX weather is killing me :-(
Come back to Cali Single Mama! Ain't nuttin good about Texas.
LOL......I knew GT wasn't doing anything here but stirring up trouble. LOL What about me GT?
I'm sorry KCC, you can come to CALI too!!!
Sorry, John, but we have freeways out here, not horse trails, life would be a tough adjustment for your young mind, let me tell you summer is here John and if you want to see the most beautiful women in the world come to LA in June....naw you wouldn't want to see them would you John, what am I talkin' about? Sorry I mentioned it.
Hey if you love those truckers and want to head to Gay bay, I won't stop you! It seems that you are doing alot of research on gay activity, that's okay, to each his own.
Whats this bickering between John and goldentoad, lets leave the bickering out of hub
Texas is my homestate and I love it. I am proud to be a Texan. Thank you for this wonderful hub. Very well done.
@ texasrose, john and I have a relationship of sorts, but I won't have the kind he wants.
I just love to mess with Texas.
GT you are a a scatch you can't itch. lmao. You are so freaking hilarious. Hold on kids, I'll cook in a minute I am following GT just to see what he has to say. Please go to Cindy Vines new Hub.
John,
Great hub and great places to visit in the state as well. I really enjoy heading out to San Antonio and spending a day on the Riverwalk. There are lots of different upscale restaurants and outdoor seating, great for people watching while enjoying a meal or a drink!
Hey John, this top ten list is fantastic. Austin is by far the best city in Texas, there's so much to do and being a university town gives it a great feel. You can post this to our site http://www.toptentopten.com/ and link back to your site. We are trying to create a directory for top ten lists where people can find your site. The coolest feature is you can let other people vote on the rankings of your list.
Thanks for the link, johnb! It obvious that we both enjoy sharing the best of Texas with the rest of the world!
Great stuff - congratulations on a fine, very informative Hub!
You left out New Braunfels, Tx and the hill country. The San Marcos river and Guadalupe are some of my most prized memories when I was younger. Good hub though.
One little thing bothers me, Austin is not in South Texas! Austin is Central Texas! San Antonio is on the edge of South Texas.
south of Dallas but its considered central or maybe S.central
Hey, you forgot to mention Texarkana located on the state line of AR and TX. Runs right down the middle of town. It's a cool place.
"Austin is more southern than central"
Not if you actually live in Texas.
I'm going to Houston for the first time next May. This gives me some ideas. Thanks.
No South Padre, I thought that was like the Spring Break capital of the world?
My wife wants us to move to Texas. I don't know why. She was born in Bakersfield, CA. I'm from Illinois but we moved to CA. when I was very young. We've been to Texas several times. Texas people are very nice. But the state shows me nothing.
Don't forget the Bob Bullock museum in Austin, Texas. This is a really fantastic place. I wrote a hub about it and another one about Austin featuring Lady Bird Johnson lake. I could just continue to write about things to see and do in Texas and probably die before I finish them all.
I do wish people would just come and visit and stop moving here!
Really, what does Vince mean our state shows him nothing??? Is he blind?
Great list - makes me want to visit Highland Park and Port Aransas.
wow texas must be an interesting state i wonder how big the new dallas cowboys stadium is???
This is my problem... there are just these 10 things to see, big plane and lots of cows. :(
What do you usually do here? You can't even drink because of high distances... Pls, help.
Oh, yes, just two additions to the list: Rodeo in Fort Worth is nice and Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo is also funny.
Grew up in Louisiana and all my first cousins ended up in Texas. Great state! My two favorite places are Kilgore and Pitner's Junction.
TEXAS IS REALLY COOL
The kid meuseum is a great place to take your kids.
that place helps you connect with them and even makes you feel like a kid again. So when you are taking a family vacation to austin go to the kid meuseum kids will have a blast
I love Texas but I had to vote California is better. I do, however, agree with your number one spot- Port A. My family and I have spend several vacations at the Beachhead Resort and loved it! The beach access is perfect and I really appreciate how the City of Port A accommodates both the beach traffic and the ability to enjoy beach coming without the fear of getting run over (unlike the beaches of North Padre Island.)
Thanks for writing about Texas!
John; Maybe there should be a number 11 on your List.
I'm a Native Texan and if anyone doesn't like Texas there is a Big Northern Exit Door (The Red River Area), so if you don't like Texas hit the door. We really want only People who love Texas here anyway.
another texan here from corpus christi and lived for a long time in Abilene, although I dont live in texas anymore its still the best and so is this hub. cheers to you.
Is Port Aransas a party town like miami? My boyfriend, his brother and friend, Rusty Tolliver from Austin, Texas are running 75 consecutive marathons from Boston to Austin with nothing other than a car and tents. Scott will celebrate his 30th birthday while running and I wanted to look at booking him a week away somewere and wondered if I would be better going to Port Aransas or Miami?
Any help would be great. We will be in Austin on 27th Nov and looking to go to resort on 29th Nov
Thanks
Abby
The River Walk should have been number #1. When my folks come for a visit, there's nothing more exciting than strolling through a cesspool of retail purgatory. Oh, and I like the mirco-waved hamburgers with Kraft cheese fries. And don't forget the cowboy hats....
i live in texas!
cali is bettta
South Padre Island .... wow one of the best places to visit in Texas .... San Antonio runs a close 2nd in my book .... I live in Texas!!
Texas is fun
I live in Cedar Park tx!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats near austin. Tx is not cool, its hot.
I took your poll. I voted "Yes" because The Bahamas is not a state and because your alternative for comparison was California which I refuse to vote for - not because I don't like it. I've never ever been to California. I'm just angry that their former governor let his wife make a fool out of herself defending him as not being a JACK when HE REALLY IS A JACK!!! Anyway ... Maria has Kennedy blood. She'll survive.
i live in Texas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i lovvvveeeee texas
sup lol texas
i am doing a report on texas. need help
