Remember, Philanthropy is not just money!

What is Philanthropy?

Philanthropy, in short summary, is basically human beings helping out other needy human beings with donations and time when the donor receives nothing back. It is a Greek word meaning love for others. Most philanthropists are very wealthy, some can be right next door to you! You do not have to be wealthy to be a philanthropist, but most are.

Philanthropists

Like I said, there are a range of philanthropists. Philanthropists are people who generate philanthropy! Most big philanthropists, like Bill Gates and many other famous people, are wealthy. Some philanthropists can live right next door to you. Your neighbor could give as of his time to his church, and receive nothing from it. Philanthropists are benevolent people. They give so much and they expect to receive nothing from it.

Philanthropy has helped MANY organizations throughout the years. Whether the organization is suffering a loss, pained by the tough economy, or even just getting started, philanthropists target these organizations and help them greatly giving sometimes into the millions.

Giving to the needy just makes humans feel good, does it not? These philanthropists do an amazing job giving money, sometimes a lot, time, effort, and donations to many different things.

Famous Philanthropists and Their Organizations

Most big time philanthropists, like Bill Gates, form an organization in which they give from. For Bill Gates, he formed the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Here are some other famous philanthropists and their organizations: J. Paul Getty, founder of Getty Oil – J. Paul Getty Trust, Henry Ford – The Ford Foundation, Brad Pitt – Right Foundation, Bill Cosby – The Hello Friend/ Ennis William Cosby Foundation, Cal Ripken – The Cal Ripken Jr. Foundation, Garth Brooks – Teammates for Kids Foundation, and many many others.

Famous philanthropists, meaning millionaires and billionaires, tend to give to organizations that do with diabetes, AIDS, disaster relief, global warming, poverty, healthcare, education, heart disease, and the list goes on. There are many philanthropists who give incredible amounts to different cause of their liking.

Philanthropist or not?

Well, it seems we are all philanthropists in our own way. Whether its spending an entire month in Africa with needy people or spending a day with a poor family right down the street, whether its giving 10 million to a needy organization or taking on your responsibility to tithe 10% to the church, whether its giving 1 million to a homeless person or giving spare change to a homeless person, we are all philanthropists.

Thanks for the read-

Nice hub, bub.  Before my company went under, I was definitely a philanthropist.  This is a good subject to be brought out into the light and now you have!
